Part 1—The Lieutenant Governor’s Residence
As you make your way into Mosaiculture Québec 2022, you’ll pass through a grand pergola that serves as the entrance. This pergola serves as a reminder of the viceregal residence that once stood on this spot but was tragically destroyed in a fire on February 21, 1966, taking the life of the then-lieutenant governor, Paul Comtois. Despite the loss, the residence was never rebuilt.
From this vantage point, you can take in a breathtaking view of a dozen giant butterflies, gracefully adorning the Great Turtle with rainbow-hued bands of flowers. This visual spectacle sets the tone for the wonders that await inside the exhibition.
As you approach the center of the exhibition, you’ll come across the Great Turtle, a beautifully crafted 2D Mosaiculture representation of the creation story told by the Huron-Wendat people. And, towering above the rest of the exhibits is the Tree of Life – a massive 52-foot (16-meter) Mosaiculture tree that boasts an array of vibrant colors.
This impressive sculpture, inspired by the mythical tree of the Huron-Wendat people, is the largest of all the Mosaiculture exhibits on the site.
Part 2—The Polar and Marine World
As you continue, on one side, you will witness majestic polar bears and walruses amidst the snow-covered terrain. On the other, be awed by southern whales, albatrosses, and penguins surrounded by a sea of blue blooms. Then, meander down the River of Great Waters where you’ll come across a breathtaking display of sea life, including whales, killer whales, dolphins, belugas, and puffins, all brought to life with the help of vibrant, living plants
Part 3—Endangered Species
At the center of the exhibition stands a 35-foot (11-meter) tall representation of Mother Earth, smiling sadly with a message of environmental concern. Visitors are greeted with her outstretched hand, symbolizing a plea for help.
This iconic Mosaiculture sculpture has been a staple of the Mosaïcultures international exhibitions since 2000 and continues to be a crowd favorite. This year, the designers have given her a makeover, showcasing water flowing from her hair and a family of beavers residing in her hand.
Surrounding Mother Earth are 156 endangered animals from various regions of the world, including Africa, Asia, Europe, and Australia. From the African elephant to the snow leopard, the exhibition presents the largest and most diverse display of endangered species in any Mosaiculture show to date. Part 4—The Huron-Wendat Nation
In this part, you’ll pass through 8 arches that are modeled after a traditional Huron-Wendat longhouse. These arches house two frescoes created by artists from Wendake, which depict the 8 contemporary and ancient clans of the Huron-Wendat Nation.
As you leave the arches, you’ll come upon the Three Sisters Culture, where corn, climbing beans, and squash form a unique and special vegetable garden.
Part 5—The Farm
The tour ends with Elzéard Bouffier inspired by the character in Jean Giono’s beloved children’s book “The Man Who Planted Trees”. This place includes bright Mosaiculture sculptures of horses, rabbits, sheep, goats, and cows, along with an oversized beekeeper. It all paints a picture of an old-fashioned plowman at work.
